Everything Old is Cool Again: Groovy Vintage Fashion from the Ukrainian Diaspora

Date: September 20, 2019 - May 2, 2020

Not all Museum treasures come from the distant past. This year, we unpacked Mama’s boxes for a nostalgic look back at Ukrainian-Canadian style in the 1960s and ’70s, when embroidery adorned everything from home décor and handbags to the ubiquitous a-line dress.

This lighthearted exhibit features a recreated recreation room as well as a treasure of unique clothing, accessories and household items, set to a backdrop of music from vinyl LPs. A gallery of wedding photos and invitations from the ‘60s and ‘70s will take you down memory lane.

Everything Old is Cool Again opened on September 20, 2019 in the form of a swinging house party. Visitors “grooved away” to live entertainment by singer Elana Balaura and Glen Nerona on keyboard, sipping martinis and reminiscing about the 1960s-70s.
