This exhibit of exquisitely crafted “sorochky” (shirts) and richly complex full costumes offers visitors a view of eight of the ethnographic regions on Ukraine’s western borders and the staggering diversity found therein.  Regional topography, flora, fauna, occupational pursuits and influences from and on neighbouring countries have created distinctive ethnographic styles that are beautifully illustrated in this exhibit of clothing from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.  The people of these various ethnographic regions have, at various times, been under the rule of different countries, have seen their borders with their neighbours move one way only to see them move back again.  Yet, then, as now, the people of these regions are united as Ukrainians.
